In education, buzz words/ideas/methods are bounced back and forth and finally dropped. If you teach long enough; you will see almost as many trends as students you teach. But what about technology? Technology is not a trend, and most definitely not getting dropped. But, it will change. As teachers we must adapt accordingly and become just as strong as our students. We must step up because this is our pathway to reach the 21st Century learner. Our students will progressively become more fluent with its use and will only be getting cheaper. This means more students will have access. It is their life now and will be their avenue for learning. They will have instant access to information, communicate with experts around the globe and collaborate with classmates and student from across the country to create new knowledge.
So, why the Teacher's ED Tech Help desk? Well, we want to start a movement. We want to see teachers embracing instructional technologies and using them in the classroom. We know time is limited and technology can be scary, but we are here to help. We will be providing teachers with resources as well as ideas on how to use them. Not only are we teachers, but we also coach. We like to rally the troops. That's where the inspiration/reflection aspect comes into play. We hope to provide our reflection on how technology has transformed our students learning and moved them away from being consumers of information to producers. Please enjoy the TED video and don't be afraid to dance (We are the lone nuts at our school). But if you do dance, embrace the first few followers. They are most important factors in starting a movement.
